Basketball City Nike/Lebron James Event 9/20/2009

Basketball City hosts “Tip Off" event at the new facility, Pier 36, on September 20, 2009

In partnership with Nike and Lebron James, the all day festival, promoted LeBron James’ documentary entitled “More Than a Game" and his new shoe (Lebron VII). The event was FREE and attended by thousands of kids from local community groups and various youth organizations.

Some of the featured areas included:

  • Basketball courts for games and clinics
  • Inter-active game stations by EA Sports
  • Various entertainers and DJ’s
  • Food and drinks (Coca Cola)
  • Give-aways included Lebron James T-shirts, basketballs, hats and headbands
  • Projection screens showed clips and trailers from the upcoming movie with a forum hosted by Kenny Smith (retired NBA player and current TV analyst on TNT)

Basketball City’s new "state of the art" facility (64,000 sq ft) is located on Manhattan's East River north of the South Street Seaport. This unique facility is approximately twice as large as the previous facility and includes seven basketball courts, a merchandise store, locker rooms and catering facilities. The facility will be able accommodate 2,600 people (or more) for catered events that serve adult beverages. The facility also includes a 15,000 sq ft deck overlooking the East River with views of downtown Manhattan, Brooklyn and the Statue of Liberty and a 24,000 sq ft parking lot. Based on its location, size, accessibility, parking and views, it is sure to be one of the best special event facilities in the City. In addition to hosting Basketball City’s regular programming of basketball leagues, tournaments, camps, fundraisers, etc., this unique facility can host other special events which include: concerts, fashion shows, bar/bat mitzvahs, CPA Exam, Food and Wine Festival, product launches, tradeshows, weddings, wrestling and kick boxing matches, etc. 

Additional potential uses are: Sales meetings and team building events / Showcase for retailers / Product launches / Staff retreats / Teleconferencing / Webcasts / Presentations to investors and the financial community

Based on Basketball City's extensive community outreach programs, Cisco and ShoreGroup are sponsoring and designing the IT infrastructure of the new facility, in an effort to bring technology to the community. This cutting edge technology, including teleconferencing, webcasts, wireless internet and digital signage, will allow Basketball City to host large corporate events, trade shows, and exhibits.

In addition, Cisco and ShoreGroup have agreed to host several events at Basketball City for some of the largest technology companies in the New York metropolitan area.
